                                              DON AND HANNAH SAUFFERER
                                                               Inducted 1983

Don and Hannah Saufferer of Bismarck were widely known for their fly-fishing abilities and their record numbers of trophy fish taken by that method.  While they are known as world class fly anglers, the Saufferers are perhaps equally well-known for their advocacy of improved water quality standards throughout the state.  Because they spent much of their time fishing in all areas of the state, they observed and promoted the improvement of the water quality in some of the state’s lakes.
The Saufferers staunchly supported the concept of catch-and-release.  They also donated many unique homemade ice fishing tackle items, like a wind jigger, which uses the concept of letting the wind impact actions on the bait.  Their wind jigger was made many years before the concept was commercialized.
