MARLIN HVINDEN

Marlin Hvinden was involved in fishing related activities for many years, including the ND Governors Cup Walleye Tournament from 1976-1990. As a member of that organization, he was one of the leaders who founded the ND Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum, originally located in Garrison’s Main Street Park.
Hvinden is also known for his outdoor writing which he has done for many years. He was involved in the original “Dakota Country”, a magazine that grew to become a popular publication for anglers. He won awards for both his writing and photography skills.
Hvinden was active in McLean County Tourism and North Dakota Parks and Recreation programs. He has taken the message of North Dakota’s great outdoors around the country. His works on parks includes the Centennial Sportsmen’s Park on the east side of Steinke Bay. He was involved in the installation of several boat ramps in McLean County, particularly during the recent drought years when the water levels decreased dramatically.
