
Colleen “Tolly” Holtan Inducted 2015
Tolly is a legend in the Lake Sakakawea area. She and her husband Byron built and developed Indian Hills Resort on the north shore of Lake Sakakawea. Indian Hills has provided a place for families to have a positive fishing experience, leading them to a lifelong involvement with the sport of fishing.
Tolly has been a tireless promotor of Lake Sakakawea and the fishing and recreational opportunities available in the area. She has been involved in various volunteer groups, including being the first woman to serve as president of the Garrison Chamber of Commerce. Tolly has served as a leader in efforts to bring attention to the need to maintain adequate water levels in Lake Sakakawea to ensure fishing and recreational opportunities. Her efforts include testifying before a U.S. Congressional Committee on the negative impact to North Dakota as the result of low levels at Lake Sakakawea.
Tolly has hosted countless outdoor media personalities at her resort and has served as a goodwill ambassador for Lake Sakakawea and North Dakota. She is the recipient of many awards, to include a Merit Award from the ND State Parks Department.
Tolly has shown an unselfish devotion to improving, preserving, and promoting the fishing opportunities at Lake Sakakawea while providing a positive fishing experience to countless numbers of people.
