
Johnnie Candle Inducted 2018
Johnnie is a resident of Devils Lake and has been president of the Lake Region Anglers Association since 2012. He has been instrumental in various projects of the Association to include the Devils Lake Shore Fishing Piers project and development of the year-round fish cleaning station. He has been one of the leaders in organizing meetings of various area stakeholders concerning Devils Lake stabilization levels and aquatic nuisance species concerns.
Johnnie has provided education to a great many persons through his efforts in instructing fishing classes at Lake Region State College, conducting fishing seminars, many of which are directed at youth, and hosting weekly fishing tip presentations on North Dakota television stations for over 20 years. He is also creator and presenter of the Walleye University, an 8 hour walleye fishing school which he has presented over 75 times.
Johnnie has been a professional fishing guide for over 28 years, guiding on both Devils Lake and Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota. He is also a well-known and successful competitor on various professional walleye tournament circuits for over 20 years with many wins to include being the 2010 MWC World Walleye Champion.
Johnnie’s passion for fishing and positively promoting fishing in North Dakota and the Devils Lake Region is second to none. He has shared his passion and knowledge with many others so they may develop and improve their fishing skills and increase their enjoyment of sportfishing and the outdoors.
