OLE BREUM
Inducted 1981
A native of Rutland, Breum was a member of a local sportsmen’s’ club who decided that southeastern North Dakota was in need of improved fishing waters and fishing opportunities for the people of that area. He first spent considerable time and effort visiting and reviewing area waters to determine if any had the potential to sustain viable fish populations. After determining that many of the area lakes did have potential, he began a campaign to generate North Dakota Game and Fish Department interest in stocking these lakes with a variety of fish species.
Not content with the status quo, Breum also worked to improve the water quality in these lakes to ensure they would continue to maintain a viable fishery well into the future. He also worked to improve lakes initially rejected as possible fisheries so they would become acceptable. Many of the programs Breum worked to establish are still in place and operating today.
