                                                               MORT BANK
                                                                 Inducted 1981

A Bismarck native, Bank is nationally renowned for his fishing abilities.  More importantly, Bank is best known for his intense efforts to promote the sport of fishing and to educate anglers.  He not only taught literally thousands of anglers a number of new techniques for catching fish, but he has also taught the responsibility to conserve the resource.  Years before conservation ever became popular, Bank promoted selective harvest and catch-and-release fishing.
Bank wrote many articles for both local and national magazines, and he also authored several books, including one on the fishing waters of North Dakota and another on Lake Sakakawea.
Bank earned many honors at fishing tournaments, such as the ND Governor’s Cup and various tournaments at Devils Lake.  He has been recognized for his large fish and most species awards.  Mort travels throughout the United States in pursuit of his favorite hobby.
